Other stuff in the book is great, at the beginning Scotty is literally reading a book called "The Laws of Physics". LOL GET IT.
I guess the long and short of it is that if you're actually knowledgeable about Trek, reading shit is fun.

Anyhoo. I strongly strongly doubt that I'll ever write this as a proper fic because the terminology alone would end it right there. But I'm really pleased that at least in my subconscious, everyone stays mostly in character! That's never happened before.

Googled it. Sure enough, it's a Puffball Mushroom. They can grow to immense size and are highly prized by mushroom... enthusiasts. Who knows how we got one growing in our yard.
